Squad Smackdown: Black Templars vs Chaos Space Marines

If you don't know the rules, here they are.

In the Red Corner: 8 Black Templar Initiates with 8 Neophytes, all armed with a bolt pistol and additional close combat weapon. The original marine horde squad frothing with righteous zeal.

In the Blue Corner: 9 Frenzied Khorne Bezerkers pulling at their chains in anticipation. Unrivaled on the charge, but either way this should be a slaughter fit for the blood god.

Neither squad has an advantage to get the charge.

The gates open!

The Beserkers get the charge on the Templars, who are standing bravely in the open! An accurate round of bolt pistol fire drops 2 Neophytes in their tracks, then the Furious Charge of the Khornate Marines strikes home.

In an insane fit of luck, 36 WS5 S5 I5 attacks dealt a horrific 24 wounds before the Templars have even drawn their chainswords. All 6 remaining Neophytes are slain, as well as 3 Initiates! The remaining 5 Initiates strike back without causing a single wound. Uh-oh, it's Fearless saves time. The Initates roll another 9 saves, losing another two brave marines. Wow.

The second round is decidedly peaceful compared to the preceding slaughter. The Initiates cause a single wound but it's saved, and the Beserkers can only manage to kill two of the remaining initiates - but the last one dies from Fearless saves.

The Aftermath: Do not stand in front of charging Khorne Beserkers! Those 24 wounds were incredibly lucky (it would be 16 on average) but you can't fail to see the devastation they cause on the charge. The Templars benefited from the extra bodies whilst retaining majority T4, but really miss Preferred Enemy. However I doubt there is any infantry unit in the game that could have stood up to the charge we saw here today...

  1. What happened to defenders getting a round of shooting off? That would have been the best part of five saves for the Bezerkers, double that if you let pistols fire twice for standing still!!

  2. Um 6th edition isn't here yet, and wasn't there then. Defenders sit and watch whilst charged.

As and aside, why on earth does this page get so many hits? Its the most popular page on my blog. I have no idea why. How did you get here Rau?
